ColinJ Macbeth 5 quotes

Quote 1- Page 41 Lines 51-52 "I dare do all that may become a man.Who dares do more is none". What is being said here is that Macbeth would do anything to be a man. The second sentence is saying that nobody does more than a man. This quote is saying that many people strive to be a man and would do anything to be a man. It also says that there is nothing higher than a man, and can not do more than a man.

Quote 2- Page 33 lines 47-48 "Come, you spirits that tend on mortal thoughts, unsex me here, ..." In this quote Lady Macbeth is speaking, she is saying that she wishes she was not a woman anymore. She is asking spirits to come and change her to a man. I think that this quote is implying that even some women wish they were men. This quote is also saying that women cant do anything about problems, only men take actions on things.

Quote 3- is from Act 5 scene 5 "I have almost forgotten the taste of fears". They are saying that when you are a man you still have fears. When you are a man you have to still feel your feelings. To be a man you have to be able to take your feelings and do something with them. Being a man means that you can take your anger and put it to good use.

Quote 4- Page 43 lines 53-58 "What beast was 't then, that made you break this enterprise to me? When you durst do it, then you were a man; and to be more than what you were, you would be so much more the man." In this quote Lady Macbeth is criticizing Macbeth for trying to talk her out of killing the king. She thinks he is being a wimp and not a man for wanting to back down. From this quote I get that to be a man you have to follow through with things. When you start something you have to finish it, if you dont you arent a man.

Quote 5- Page 180 lines 1-5 "Why should I play the Roman fool and die On mine own sword? Whiles I see lives, the gashes Do better upon them." This quote is saying you are not a man if you kill yourself. Macbeth was saying that he would rather fight to the end and die from someone else's sword than take his own life. To be a man you cant try to take your own life. You are a coward if you kill yourself, it means you are giving up.

Odyssey Theme, Colin J

A reoccurring theme from the Odyssey is, Trust is the most important virtue.

In the Odyssey Trust is in every single book. When Odysseus returns home he talks to Athena, they were talking about his son and Athena said she personaly escorted him accross the sea and Odysseus calms down and trusts her. Page 300 Lines 479-481 "But the bright eyed goddess reassured him firmly: No need for anguish, trust me, not for him- I escorted your son myself." When Athena tells him that he is more at ease and not worrying about his son as much. It is always important to know who you can trust and who you cannot trust.

Odysseus Knows exactly who he can trust. When Odysseus returns home he know who he can still trust when he first sees his son.Page 339 Lines 16-19 "He dropped the bowls with a clatter" "straight to the prince  rushed and kissed his face and kissed his shining eyes". When Odysseus saw his son he was overwhelmed with joy. A father should always be able to trust his son.

Odysseus trusts his son to help him fight against the suitors and help kill all of them. Telemachus did and always would trust his father because he was such a good father to him. Page 438 Lines 481-484 "Prince Telemachus son of King Odysseus, girding his sharp sword on, clamping hand to spear, took his stand by a chair that flanked his father- his bronze spearpoint glinting now like fire".Telemachus was ready to back up and fight with his father. Trust is very important when in a war or fight.

Joe Mauer, Post season

Joe Mauer is a great player but we cant just rely on him to carry the twins through the post season, we need everybody to step up. Last night in game one of the post season it was Cuddyer who stepped up and hit the 2 run homerun to get the twins the headstart. We also need to focus on our fielding to make it clean and get the easy outs. Our pitchers need to step up more than anybody to be able to pitch and come through when we need them to. Joe Mauer is definetly one of our top players but we need more people to step up, we cant put the whole weight of the team on to his shoulders we need others to help him carry the team.

Opinion Paper Daydreaming

Daydreaming has often been thought of as a waste of time that is unproductive and for those who have nothing better to do.  I disagree and believe that daydreaming has several advantages.  For example, one can daydream about past events.  Reflecting on pleasurable memories can be encouraging and uplifting.  It helps you appreciate the good things that have happened and the people around that time.  Achieving satisfaction and pleasure in life is good motivation to push ahead and try new things or develop better relationships.

Another area daydreaming can explore is future events such as scoring a goal in a hockey game.  Visualization helps focus on the outcome and helps to see a way for it to happen.  This is a very practical form of daydreaming in my opinion that can inspire confidence and planning.

Daydreaming is also a safe way to problem solve and combine information that has been learned.  There are no boundries or barriers so you can draft an idea and edit it at will.   You can get a sense of wheter something is for you or not.  A potential time saver as I see it! Someone watching may think you are being lazy and unproductive, but the wheels are turning in your mind and that is bound to take you places.
